When I hit publish on my last post I had no idea it would be 4+ years before I’d blog again. Oops! I suppose that’s how things go sometimes. I didn’t stop blogging intentionally, I got busy with life things: in that time I got married, had a baby, and changed job roles. In the last few months I’ve realized I miss writing so I’ve decided to bring the blog back.
Restarting this blog required quite a saga involving debating whether I wanted to continue hosting my own personal blog or post on Substack, which appears to be the platform of the moment. When I decided I’d continue posting on here I was horrified to discover that the files for this blog sat collecting dust on a hard drive inside a computer I had not opened in 3 years. After working up the courage to retrieve them, I had to refresh my memory on the tech stack I chose for this blog: Jekyll + Firebase Hosting (surprisingly, those still seem to be popular blogging tools). It took some fighting with my computer’s Ruby version and a bit of help from Generative AI, but now the blog is back.
This time around I’m planning to write about both tech and non-tech things. In the interest of not making a New Year’s resolution I won’t keep, I’m not going to set any goals about posting cadence. I’ll simply post when inspiration strikes, which could be twice in one week or once a year. Stay tuned!
